Wipers are designed to prevent any contamination of the system by external particles or other environmental impacts during transaortic movements in cylinders and actuators. They also provide the static sealing function on the cylinder head versus the atmosphere. Some double-acting designs also reduce the drag oil film during outstroke.

The AD double wiper seal featuring a Slipper Seal design consists of a PTFE slide ring for the wiper function and an elastomer O-ring as a preloading element. It combines two functions: wiping against external contamination and a sealing function that reduces the residual oil film. The AD wiper seal is characterized by low break-away and sliding friction and can therefore be used in low-lube conditions as well.
Due to the material combination of the slide ring (PTFE) and the O-ring (elastomer), this product is suitable for a wide range of applications, especially for aggressive media and/or high temperatures. Several compounds can alternatively be selected according to the specific application profile.
Wiper rings / seals serve to safeguard axially movable rods and pistons against ingress of dust, dirt, sand and swarf, thus protecting the guiding elements and seals and extending the service life of the sealing system.

The Ultrathan® AH double wiper seal serves to prevent ingress of dust, dirt, sand and swarf into hydraulic cylinders. This reduces the risk of scoring on the piston rod caused by external contaminants embedded in the guidance. The good wiping effect is achieved by the special design of the wiper lip. In addition, the sealing lip facing the medium reduces the residual oil film. The proven Ultrathan® P5008 compound stands for high abrasion resistance, minor permanent deformation, and robustness against external mechanical impact. The wiper seal is securely held in place in the axially open installation housing by means of a press fit of the metal case vis-à-vis the inner diameter of the groove.

The Ultrathan® AV double wiper seal serves to prevent ingress of dust, dirt, sand and swarf into hydraulic cylinders. The dirt shield formed on the wiper prevents moisture from migrating underneath the wiper into the groove, thus preventing corrosion which frequently occurs in the groove. The good wiping effect is achieved by the special design of the wiper lip. The proven Ultrathan® P5008 compound stands for high abrasion resistance, minor permanent deformation, and robustness against external mechanical impact. The wear-resistant Ultrathan AY double wiper ring serves to prevent ingress of dust, dirt, sand and swarf. This is achieved by its special design which largely prevents scoring, protects the guiding parts and extends the service life of the seals. In addition, the sealing lip facing the media side reduces the residual oil film. The AY double wiper ring closes the cylinder vis-à-vis the environment. The AY wiper seal can be installed in undercut grooves without requiring special screwrings or brackets. In addition to higher wear resistance, the utilization of polyurethane offers good resistance against ozone and UV radiation. When PTFE rod seals are used we recommend the combination with the Ultrathan AY wiper seal to minimize the residual oil film.

Parker’s AY profile, premium double-lip wiper is used in light to heavy-duty hydraulics. When used in high pressure applications with the proper Parker rod seals, the AY profile complements the sealing system by providing an additional beveled sealing lip, yielding excellent film-breaking and the driest rod sealing available. These dual acting features along with its space-saving single-gland configuration, enable it to be used by itself in low pressure applications as both the rod seal and the wiper. Knife-trimmed sealing lips ensure the best possible film breaking.
NOTE: When using the AY wiper in conjunction with other rod seals, it is important to select a rod seal profile that enables pressure relief of fluid into the system, otherwise a pressure trap may form between the wiper and rod seal. Suggested rod profiles are Parker’s BT Profile, BS Profile, and B3 Profile U-cup seals.

Parker’s SHD Profile wiper seals is an outstanding choice for light and medium duty hydraulic and pneumatic applications. The slotted heel design prevents pressure traps from forming between the rod seal and wiper. The snap-in design is oversized, ensuring a snug fit, excellent stability, and that the wiper lip maintains contact with the rod at all times. This makes the SHD Profile a great all-round industrial snap-in wiper that retrofits many typical commercial glands. Parker offers broad tooling availability, up to 30″, making the SHD a good choice for large rod diameters.

Parker’s YD Profile wiper seals are the premier design among high performance, snap-in excluders for medium to heavy-duty hydraulics. Designed for optimum stability and ultimate performance, the YD profile incorporates an aggressive, knife-trimmed wiping lip that maintains contact with the housing at all times to ensure maximum exclusion along the rod. A true zero-radius lip provides the most effective wiping action available. The YD Profile’s secondary outside diameter lip seals against the shoulder of the gland, preventing water and other contaminants from entering the static side of the wiper.
